Carleton Scott: Taking a chance either way

He's entering a man's world and a man's game. He hopes.

Scott has an NBA body…and potential.

So what does he have to lose by entering the draft now?

Certainly, a chance to improve his stock, by showcasing his game on national TV every night in the BIG East for another year.

And if he doesn’t make it he’s passed up that opportunity, for a life in the D-league or overseas.

But he’s already earned his degree, and that seems to be a major factor in his decision. By leaving early he’s not missing out on his education.

And who knows?

There’s a chance his stock doesn’t improve if he stays. What if he’s already as good as he’s going to be? What if he gets hurt?

Scott had pros and cons to weigh on both sides. And while staying at Notre Dame came with a safety net, there’s no guarantee it was the better choice. Only time will tell that.

Carleton Scott accomplished what he set out to at Notre Dame: Get a degree and a shot at the NBA.

He's about to take that shot.

It’s just not going to be a slam dunk.
