MICHIGAN CITY — Odds weren’t in the favor of those gathered Sunday night at a house in the 1000 block of Michigan City’s West 10th Street. Public complaints to police of professional gambling and illegal booze sales at the house resulted in 22 arrests.
- Three Michigan City men were arrested on felony gambling, illegal alcohol sales and other charges;
- One Michigan City man on resisting arrest and other charges; and
- 18 men and women on misdemeanor charges of visiting a common nuisance. One of the men was from Seattle, Wash., the rest from Michigan City and LaPorte.
Among items police confiscated from the house: 12 cases of beer, 60 bottles of gin, money, weapons, gambling apparatuses and paraphernalia.
The city’s Street Crimes Unit and Indiana Excise Police were given search warrants after “numerous complaints and documented incidents of illegal alcohol sales, promoting professional gambling and maintaining a common nuisance,” as stated in a Michigan City Police news release.
