Five people were rescued from a section of the Elkhart River in Ox Bow County Park Tuesday afternoon after their kayaks overturned.
Concord Township firefighters, along with divers from the Elkhart Fire Department, joined forces to bring one man and five women to safety.
A WSBT reporter at the scene says no one was hurt when the four kayaks overturned at a rough spot in the river, leaving the five to hang on to branches until rescuers arrived.
A spokesman for the Concord Township Fire Department says none of the five kayakers wore a personal floatation device, even though recent heavy rainfall has raised the river level and caused swift moving currents.
