Fire damages abandoned Elkhart house

June 06, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

ELKHART — Osolo Township firefighters spent the early hours of Monday morning knocking down a fire in an abandoned house.

A nearby resident called 911 about 12:15 a.m., saying they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the area of the 25000 block of Forrest Hill, off C.R. 9 in Elkhart.

Firefighters first thought the location was a business, but it turned out to be a house that’s been abandoned “for some time,” Miller said.

Fire damaged the roof. No firefighters were injured. Miller said though the house has been ransacked previously, the fire department is investigating Monday’s fire as an arson.
