Crime Stoppers is now offering reward money for tips that lead to the arrest of graffiti artists.

Normally, the agency has only offered cash rewards to find people involved in more major, felony crimes.

“But in this case the board of directors decided it was worth giving a try and paying a smaller reward amount  — probably in the area of $50 — for information that leads to the arrest of these graffiti people,” said Lt. Cindy Kilgore, Crime Stoppers coordinator.

“We were approached by the South Bend police chief because graffiti is such a pervasive problem not only in this community but in every community,” she said.

Kilgore said the new policy will affect more than just people in South Bend and Mishawaka because Michiana Crime Stoppers covers a 12-county region.
