July 15, 2011|By Jason Overholt (joverholt@wsbt.com)

Van Buren County police say the blood alcohol level of a woman found passed out along the road in a car that contained her 2 and 4-year-old children was over five times the legal limit.

This happened around 3:30 Friday afternoon. Police say they were called to the area of County Road 652 north of Red Arrow Highway in Van Buren County on a report that a woman was slumped over the steering wheel of a car and unresponsive. Officers found her vehicle pulled partially off the roadway with her and her children inside.

Police say they found a party cup half full of vodka in the vehicle and a preliminary test showed the 37-year-old Portage woman was over five times the legal limit of .08. Because of her extreme level of intoxication, she was transported by ambulance to Bronson/Lakeview Hospital before being booked into Van Buren County Jail.

The children were turned over to their day care provider.
