KOSCIUSKO COUNTY -- A Warsaw man is dead and a Winona Lake woman was arrested Saturday after a fatal mo-ped crash in Kosciusko County.
Police say emergency responders arrived at the intersection of Detroit Street (State Road 15) and Center Street Saturday just before 6 p.m. in reference to a multiple-vehicle crash.
E.M.S. personnel located James W. (Billy) Beigh, 61, of Warsaw in the roadway suffering from severe head trauma. Beigh was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was “hot-loaded” by the Samaritan helicopter and immediately flown to Parkview Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Beigh later died of his injuries around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Kosciusko County F.A.C.T crash team members determined that a car driven by Kerri Ann Cox, 34, of Winona Lake, had been driving westbound on Center Street approaching the intersection just as the traffic light turned green. Roger E. Middleton, 79, of Warsaw, was stopped in traffic facing westbound on Center Street, directly behind Beigh, who was on a mo-ped.
