August 11, 2011

SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities have recovered the body of one of two swimmers who were swept out into Lake Michigan off Saugatuck Dunes State Park.

Authorities tell the Kalamazoo gazette and WZZM-TV the body of 46-year-old Daniel Reed of Redford was found Wednesday.

Authorities say he and 22-year-old Brad Stoner of Livonia were swimming Tuesday afternoon off the southwestern Michigan beach when they started struggling in a rip current.

The site is in Allegan County's Saugatuck Township, about 35 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

The Coast Guard says it suspended the search Wednesday afternoon. The search involved aircraft and boats from the U.S. and Canada.

The National Weather Service says there's a high risk for rip currents and warns people to stay out of the water.
