GOSHEN -- Two Goshen residents were placed under arrest Wednesday after their dog was found emaciated and sickly on their property.

According to a press release from the Goshen Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of South 23rd Street in reference of a call placed by a witness who believed the couple was neglecting their dog.

Upon arrival, police found a mixed breed dog tied to a tree with no water or food provided. Police say the dog was emaciated, sickly and weak.

The owners, Robert Caldwell, 43, and Linda Caldwell, 38, were both arrested on charged of animal neglect/cruelty and given a memorandum to appear in court.

The dog was released to the Elkhart County Humane Shelter. The shelter said they would have to assess the health of the dog to see if it could recover and be adopted, or it would have to be put down.
