Why I love college football

August 31, 2011|Pete Byrne | Upon Further Review

A brand new college football season kicks off this weekend.  And with all due respect to Christmas, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

Here’s why I LOVE college football.

I love Joe–Pa, and whiteouts in Happy Valley.

I love Defend the Rock, the World’s largest Drum, and "Hey-ey-ey ey! SHOUT!"

I love the rise of the Cardinal and the fall of Troy.

I love Sparty, Goldy, Bucky, Ralphie and UGA.

I love Hook Em Horns and Roll Tide.

I love I-L-L.   I-N-I.

I love the U versus the Gators, the battle for the Ax and the Oaken Bucket.

I hate Hail to the Victors…but man do I love to hate it.

I love night games, bowl games, big hits and big rivalries.

But mostly, I love Notre Dame Football!

I love painted helmets.

I love striped endzones.

I love Play Like a Champion Today, Touchdown Jesus, We-Are-N-D, and the Alma Mater.

I love 7 Heisman trophies and 11 national championships.

And I can’t wait for #12.

I love college football.

And I love that it’s finally here!
