Muncie couple sues doctor over son's circumcision

September 19, 2011

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A Muncie couple is heading to court six years after suing a physician who they say circumcised their son against their wishes following his 2003 birth.

The Star Press reports (http://bit.ly/rbQVez ) Delaware Circuit Court 4 jurors will hear the case next month.

The complaint describes the circumcision as "an intentional battery" and "excruciatingly painful." It alleges that as a result of the circumcision the boy could develop medical problems and be sexually disabled when he grows up.

The suit claims the doctor knew of the couple's opposition to circumcision.

The now-7-year-old boy and his parents already have settled with Ball Memorial Hospital.

A judge has not yet ruled on whether a questionnaire that includes questions about circumcision will be sent to prospective jurors.

Trial is scheduled for Oct. 3.
