A 35-year-old female inmate at Marshall County Jail died Monday morning for reasons that “appear to be medically related,” according to The Marshall County Coroner’s Office.
Georgina M. Onofre has been in the jail since early this month. She was under observation because of her past medical history, according to the coroner.
Around 4 a.m. Onofre became unresponsive and jail staff started efforts to resuscitate her. She was declared dead around 5 a.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.
The Marshall County coroner said the cause of death appears to be medically related. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday afternoon.
Indiana State Police, the Marshall County coroner and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.
