More lawsuits for the Indiana State Fair

September 26, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

MISHAWAKA – Two new lawsuits have been filed connected to this summer's stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

Attorneys say the wrongful death and injury suits are on behalf of a Chicago couple who entered into a civil union last June.

Seven people died and dozens of others were injured in August when part of the stage blew over during a severe thunderstorm.

This is the second time suits have been filed on behalf of same-sex couples. The first involves a Wanatah woman who died in the stage collapse.

The lawsuits are raising questions concerning the legal rights of same-sex marriage partners. Indiana State law does not recognize such marriages.
