LOWELL, Ind. – Early Thursday morning, 18-year-old Zachary A. Keilman of Rensselaer walked into the Indiana State Police Lowell Post stating that he believed he was wanted.
When asked why he thought he was wanted, say police, Keilman rolled up the sleeves on his shirt. He had handcuffs on both wrists but the chain had been cut in half.
After further investigation, police say that Keilman had been detained by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department the night before at an underage drinking party. Keilman was placed inside a police car, but while the deputy was busy dealing with others he ran off still handcuffed.
Police say that Keilman had someone cut the chain but realized that his identification was left with the arresting officer.
Keilman is charged for escape and fleeing. He was booked into Newton County Jail.
