ELKHART COUNTY — State Rep. Tim Neese (R-Elkhart) and Osolo Township Trustee Ben Russo met to discuss the safety of a dangerous stretch of road in Elkhart County that has been the site of several accidents over the past few years.
The Simonton Lake area of S.R. 19 has been the site of more than 100 accidents and 25 injuries since 2004. Within thge last 17 months, there have been three fatalities along that stretch of road, according to Osolo Emergency Management Services.
Proposed changes would modify S.R. 19 and would allow for a safer way to for pedestrians cross the road. Six accidents have occured there involving pedestrians.
Road markings and advance warning signs are also proposed to lower the amount of accidents.
Representatives met with residents and business owners who work in the area and they feel this stretch of road is a priority for improvement.
