October 25, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

ST. JOSPEH COUNTY – A pit bull attacked two adults in their home at the 56000 block of Oak Road at 11a.m. on Tuesday, said police.

Nancy Peppers, 68, and Teresa Reeves, 47, were attacked by their pit bull after police say the dog had a seizure and Peppers went to the dog’s aid.

Then the pit-bull turned on Nancy and started to bite her. Police said Reeves then went to help Peppers and got involved in the attack.

Peppers and Reeves own three pit bulls mixed but only one of them was inside the home when the attack happened.

According to the South Bend Tribune, St. Joseph County police spokesman Sgt. Matt Blank said Peppers and Reeve's initial story was that an unknown pit bull had broken into their home and attacked both of them, in an effort to get the family’s three pet pit bulls. They said after police arrived, the pit bull had vanished.

Police questioned the women further, Blank said, and they eventually admitted they had been attacked by one of their own dogs.

The humane society was at the scene but did not take the dog, said police. It is unknown when or if the humane society will euthanize the pit bull.

Both adults have been taken to Memorial hospital. Peppers had a compound fracture to her ankle and lacerations to her leg. Reeves had lacerations to her right arm and leg.
