WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University has fired its associate dean of students after West Lafayette police arrested him on shoplifting charges.
The school announced Friday that 50-year-old Pablo Malavenda has been removed from his administrative position.
Malavenda was arrested Oct. 9 after employees of Walmart told police he was captured on video stealing items on Oct. 8. He was later charged with theft and conversion.
As associate dean, Malavenda oversaw about 700 student organizations, independent housing units, fraternities, sororities and other programs. He had been with the university since 1998. The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/u4wF7B ) Malavenda has the right to appeal his termination under Purdue policies.
A hearing on the charges is set for Nov. 7.
