Ivy Tech instructor dies in fall from tower

November 02, 2011

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — An Ivy Tech Community College instructor has died after falling from a tower while teaching on the Lafayette campus.

Ivy Tech spokesman Tom McCool says 36-year-old Craig Porter was on a tower used for teaching wind turbine technology around noon Wednesday with students when he fell from the top to the ground.

McCool says classes were canceled on the campus for the rest of the day. He says counselors were made available to talk with students and employees.

It's not immediately known what caused the fall or how far Porter fell.

The Journal and Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/rwoS2j) Porter began working at Ivy Tech this semester as the chairman of an energy technology program on the campus.
