CASS COUNTY – Two people died in a crash early Thursday morning in Cass County when a Volvo crossed the center line and nearly hit a semi trailer head on, said police.

Gustave V. Geisleman, 36, and 19-year-old Benjamin Joseph Smith were pronounced dead at the scene, police said, from blunt force trauma. Both men were from South Bend.

According to police, the Volvo was heading north on State Road 25 at 2:25 a.m. when Geisleman crossed the center line and crashed into a semi trailer.

Officers closed down State Road 25 for four hours to clean up debris and diesel fuel that was spilled from the semi trailers’ fuel tank.

Two other passengers inside the Volvo were injured in the crash.

Phillip M. Evans, 24, from Plymouth sustained head injuries and Neil Crum, 35, from Elkhart had injuries to his left shoulder. Police say both men are being treated at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
