Cass County police seek answers in 11-year-old's death

November 04, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

CASS COUNTY — With the autopsy done, Cass County police are now waiting for toxicology test results in the hope it will shed light on why an 11-year-old has died. At this time, police do not suspect foul play.

When parents tried to wake Destany Frick for school early Thursday morning at a house on Wolf Street in Howard Township, they found the child unresponsive and called 911, according to a news release issued late Thursday night by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The parents attempted CPR, but were unsuccessful. Police and medics responding to the call determined the child had died.

An autopsy was done Thursday at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. Autopsy results will be released when toxicology test results are received, police said, noting that is the sheriff’s department policy.

The child’s name will not be released by police until the autopsy report is done.

Police continue to investigate circumstances of the child’s death and ask anyone with information about the case to call the Cass County Tipline at 800-462-9328.
