'Michigan Mommas' send Christmas comfort gifts to troops

November 09, 2011|By Chad Damp (damp@wsbt.com)

STEVENSVILLE — With the holiday season just around the corner, 90,000 U.S. troops are still away from their families serving in Afghanistan. But that doesn't mean they have to be without the comforts of home.

"Michigan Mommas" ... a group from Stevensville ...  packed up candy, clothing and personal care products all bound for 300 U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan.

Lynn D'Amato has two sons in the military and started sending care packages to more troops after learning many don't get the comforts of home she was sending her soldiers.

The Mommas got donations from employees at Whirlpool and Palisades Nuclear Plant to help buy the sack stuffers. They know every bit of support helps the troops as they work toward the day they can come home for good.

The care packages will be mailed out Wednesday. In order to get them to the troops by Christmas, packages must be shipped by Nov. 15.
