Parnell Martin pleads guilty in Niles sex extortion case

NILES – A second of the so-called “Niles 5” has pleaded guilty to a sex crime in a sex extortion case and for violating his bond.

Parnell Martin was in court Friday morning to plead guilty to criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

He agreed to testify against his co-defendants at their trials.

Martin also pleaded guilty to violating his bond and talking to one of his co-defendants, Martise Washington. He received a 60-day sentence for the violation having already served 22 days.

Martin is one of five Niles teens charged against taping a girl having sex with one of them and then threatening to post it on Facebook if she did not have sex with the others. His sentencing is set for January 9, 2012 with a maximum penalty of 15 years.

A second suspect, Martel Miller, is scheduled to be in court Friday. His trial is scheduled for the end of November.

Trey Nichols trial is set for December.

Leon Murphy pleaded guilty in exchange for his testimony against his co-defendants.

Martise Washington went to trial and was found guilty of the crimes earlier in November.
