SOUTH BEND – Police hope raids on two South Bend stores may cut down on crime against Notre Dame students.
Police have made three arrests following Tuesday’s raids. Sharif Saleh, Ramanjeet Singh, and Tajinder Singh were all booked into the St. Joseph County jail.
Police raided the Phillips 66 at Ironwood and Ewing and The Howard Street Food Mart Tuesday afternoon. Officers say they found thousands of counterfeit items like shoes and purses. Investigators say both places were possibly selling drugs. They did find synthetic marijuana in each store.
But perhaps the most concerning part of their investigation has been the stolen electronics being resold at the Howard Street Mart.
"We’ve had a lot of people we've been able to catch or investigate who say we broke into a Notre Dame students house because they have good stuff to steal and this is where we take things to get money off of it," said Sergeant Dominic Zultanski, South Bend Police detective.
