EAU CLAIRE, Mich. – Police say a 21-year-old man is dead after a 16-year-old girl shot him early Tuesday morning.

Police found David Wayne Quinn dead from a gunshot wound inside his home in the 5400 block of Shanghi Road in Eau Claire. A witness called police about the shooting just before 3:30 Tuesday morning.

Quinn’s Grandfather spoke to WSBT. He said they called David “DJ.”

The grandfather says DJ's girlfriend is the one arrested for his grandson's death, but police won’t confirm if that’s the case.

"Yeah, I’m a little surprised," said neighbor Henry Breyen.

The aftermath of this shooting has left some neighbors uneasy.

Berrien County Undersheriff Chuck Heit said this area is usually very calm and police don’t recall previous calls to this road.

“We have not, to my knowledge, [been called] to this residence. And it's an area that’s usually fairly quiet," Heit said.

But on Tuesday morning that peaceful rural road was suddenly filled with police, a mobile crime lab and detectives.

Breyen has lived along Shanghi road for 38 years. He doesn't know the Quinn family well, but said they've been decent neighbors.

"They've been here a long time,” Breyen said. “They're not bad people. They are not bad people, but it seems they've made some errors along the way."

Quinn's grandfather lives less than a mile away from where his grandson was shot on Shanghi Road. He tells WSBT his grandson was a good guy, but he believes his grandson's girlfriend is the problem.

Neighbors said they recently saw Quinn with a young lady outside this home but they don't know if it's the same girl that has been arrested.

"I saw a young lady with him there yesterday? Two days ago? Must have been two days ago,” Breyen said.

Neighbors said this deadly shooting has now left a scar on their quiet street.

"It's very disappointing, very sad," Breyen said.

The 16 year old is in the Berrien County Juvenile Center. She's being held on juvenile charges of 2nd degree Homicide
