A police pursuit turned fatal Thursday night in Marshall County, after the suspect fired a gun at police. The suspect was then shot by police.

This started as a pursuit near Argos when an Argos Police officer tried to pull the suspect over on a traffic stop.

The suspect, 62-year-old Mark Albright of Plymouth, refused to pull over and instead, sped up to flee, said Trent Smith, Indiana State Police spokesman, via a news release.  It is believed Albright was intoxicated.

A Marshall County dispatcher confirmed to WSBT scanner traffic stating Albright was driving recklessly and taking other vehicles head-on during the pursuit.

The chase ended just before 9 p.m. at Quince Road and U.S. 6. Smith said Albright jumped out of his vehicle and ran, with officers following right behind.

When they yelled for him to stop, Smith said Albright turned around and fired two shots. The officers responded with their own gunfire, hitting the suspect multiple times.

Smith said, Albright was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Officers with Argos, Walkerton, and Marshall County agencies were involved in the pursuit and shooting -- plus one DNR officer. They were unharmed.
