KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Two men are behind Kosciusko County Jail bars Wednesday morning and a 13-year-old boy is in serious condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after a truck vs. bike crash.

The teen was riding his bicycle early Tuesday evening on C.R. 900 West when, police say, a Nappanee man driving at a high rate of speed struck the teen and then, with his passenger, ran from the scene.

A caller to 911 told police the two men were running through a nearby field.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Rick Shepherd found the driver, John Chupp, 22, of Nappanee, and alerted other deputies Chupp's passenger ran into a barn at 8324 West C.R. 800 North.

With the persuasion of a Warsaw police K-9, Anthony Slabaugh, 23, of New Paris, was arrested without incident at the barn.
