Washington's Dieter named player of the year

South Bend Washington WR Gehrig Dieter was named the 4A player of the year in Indiana, at the Griddy's on Sunday.  DL Dylan Heyveart of Penn, LB Coy Brown of NorthWood, LB Jarrett Settles of Concord and LB Sam Laidig of Penn were also 1st team all-state in the Big School category.

The Indiana Football Digest honored the best of the best from the 2011 season at The Griddy’s 2012 held at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis on March 18.

The Griddy Awards were held for the first time in 2007. Each year, this banquet and award ceremony to recognizes the best players, coaches and media representatives in Indiana High School Football.

In addition to the 10 state finalists from the 2011 season, the Griddy’s honored five coaches of the year, two assistant coaches of the year, five players of the year, and two 26-member All-State teams.
