NILES — Police say a man involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident last night has turned himself in. Now, the family of the victim speaks out.

"You know if you hit somebody, you should stop. But he didn't. I hope he just gets justice out of this," said Aron Brigham, the victim's nephew.

Charles Lintz, 51, died after being hit by a car on M-60 near Lilac Street, just east of Niles. The accident happened sometime after 9 Sunday night. A passerby saw Lintz's body in the road with no shoes on and a jacket pulled up over his head.

Known as Junior by his family, Lintz's loved ones say he was a simple and, although currently out of a job, a hardworking man who had been suffering from major heart problems.

"We love him and we're going to miss him," Brigham said.

Lintz lived on Lilac Street, about a block and a half from where the accident happened. It's still unclear why he was walking on the highway.

"[We're trying to figure out] If he was in the road, if he was crossing, if there was some other mitigating circumstance that allowed him to be where he was or even why he was in that area," said Trooper Jason Bailey, Michigan State Police.

Toxicology reports are pending for both Lintz and the driver, according to police.

So far, no charges have been filed against the driver. Police say they are still investigating and all reports will be turned over to the Cass County prosecutor.
