Northwood band has unique fundraising idea

May 02, 2012|By Ed Ernstes | WSBT-TV Reporter

A local high school has come up with a unique way to raise money for an upcoming band trip. One that also helps the environment at the same time

The ' Red Regiment' band at Northwood High School has been invited to play at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida...in June of 2013. The band and band boosters are taking a different tack to raise money for the trip that does not involve selling anything.

They have kicked off a community-wide recycling project to collect, recycle, and sell scrap metal. It's helping to raise money for the band as well as helping folks get rid of things they don't want, and keep it from ending up in the landfills.

You can donate items for the fundraiser at a collection center Northwood Middle School in Wakarusa this Saturday morning. The event runs from 8 a.m. until noon.
