SOUTH BEND — An early-morning fire Saturday all but destroyed a vacant house in the 200 block of North Sheridan Street.
A neighbor called 911 after seeing the house on fire and said they’d seen an unknown person leave the house shortly before the fire began.
South Bend fire crews found intense fire coming from the first floor of the two-story house, just before 4 a.m. A fire department report listed the house’s value at $35,000 and damage to the structure at $25,000.
The fire started in the living room, but the cause is as yet unknown and being investigated.
Neighbors told fire officials the house had been vacant about two years.
