MORENCI, Mich. (AP) — Police in the southern Michigan community of Morenci say they think they've figured out part of the mystery of a grave marker found in a resident's backyard.
The Daily Telegram of Adrian reports (http://bit.ly/J9wDoY ) Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks learned that the marker turned up in a roadside ditch in Lenawee County in the 1990s. Weeks says he was told it then was brought to Morenci to be made into a table top, but ended up buried in the back yard.
A person was doing some gardening recently and discovered the marker with the names Darrel F. and Catherine R. Gottschalk, buried face down about a foot under the yard's surface.
One mystery remains: How or why the grave marker ended up in Lenawee County in the first place.
