Competency hearing to be held for teen accused of killing boyfriend

May 16, 2012

There will be a competency hearing for the 17-year-old accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend.

Destiny Coulson is charged with second degree murder in the death of David Quinn in January in Eau Claire.

Police say Coulson shot Quinn after the two had been drinking and arguing. The prosecutor wants to move the trial to adult court, but during a court hearing last month, Coulson was determined to be incompetent. So the issue of moving the case to adult court was put on hold.

Coulson was to be evaluated by a psychiatrist and a hearing will be held later this month to decide whether she is now competent, or what can be done to help her become competent.
