Guilty plea in LaPorte County molesting case

May 16, 2012|By Stan Maddux | WSBT Correspondent

A Westville area man pleaded guilty Wednesday to engaging in sexual activity with a 9-year-old girl.

Ryan Osowski, 37, agreed in LaPorte Circuit Court to being found guilty on three counts of Class B felony child molesting.

The plea also calls for argued sentencing, which means he could receive anywhere from a six to 20 year sentence on each count. By pleading guilty, Osowski does not have to face the possibility of a 20 to 50 year sentence on each count had he been convicted at trial.

Osowski, during a hearing before Judge Tom Alevizos, admitted to taking part in sexual activity with the girl when she was 9 between April 1 and December 31 of 2009.

It was in March of 2010 when the girl came forward telling La Porte County Police that Osowski instructed her to perform the sex acts.

When questioned, police said Osowski admitted to all of the allegations made by the girl and also revealed he and the girl watched numerous pornographic movies together, court documents revealed.

Alevizos took the guilty plea under advisement and ordered a background check of Osowski to help in determining his sentence if he accepts the plea.

Sentencing arguments were scheduled for July 26 starting at 1 p.m.

La Porte County Deputy Prosecutor Steve Fenton said Osowski has two counts of Class A misdemeanor invasion of privacy counts still pending in LaPorte Superior Court 3. He said those cases will also be resolved in the plea agreement negotiated with the defense.

Osowski is owner of Great Lakes Construction out of Valparaiso .
