SOUTH BEND – Today, ground was broken on the first phase of a $10 million campus for Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in South Bend.
The church plans to spend $2 million on the first part of the expansion of what’s called the “Community Campus” project at St. Joseph and Dubail Streets. Pastor Rickardo Taylor, Sr. decided Mt. Carmel needs to build right in the neighborhood.
Church leaders say vacant lots and abandoned houses have been a problem in South Bend, so Mt. Carmel has bought four square blocks of lots and homes.
