BREMEN — The Marshal County coroner's office has released the name of the person killed when his SUV hit a semi on U.S. 6 near Bremen Wednesday morning.
Deputy coroner Bridget Hite says around 6:15 a.m., 23-year-old Taylor Dodds of South Bend was eastbound when he crossed the centerline and collided with a semi driven by 55-year-old David Bryant of southern Indiana. The accident happened around 6:15 a.m. just outside the Pla-Mor Campground.
Dodds died instantly despite wearing his seat belt. The semi caught fire, but Bryant was able to walk away from the wreckage safely.
The sun was bad in the area at the time, so police are investigating to see if the driver may have been blinded, though that has not been confirmed.
U.S. 6 was closed in both directions for more than 4 1/2 hours before Marshall County police reopened the highway.
The accident remains under investigation. The Marshall County coroner's office is waiting for toxicology results, which is standard procedure in any fatal accident.
