Driver talks to investigators Wednesday. Zion Carlstrom, 17, of Middlebury was critically injured late Tuesday as she rode a bicycle along C.R. 35.

Police say the driver who left a C.R. 35 crash scene late Tuesday night, came forward Wednesday to talk with crash investigators.

Pasquale Rulli, 26, of Middlebury, identified himself as the driver who struck 17-year-old Zion Carlstrom as she road a bicycle with another cyclist.

Rulli was driving a black 2008 Cadillac STS 4-door when he struck Carlstrom from behind about 10:20 p.m., police said via a news release issued Wednesday night. Both Rulli and Carlstrom were going south on C.R. 35, north of U.S. 20.

Carlstrom was airlifted from the scene via MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The teen remains in critical condition, a hospital nursing supervisor told WSBT Wednesday night.

The crash investigation continues and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department at 574-533-4151.
