A Notre Dame alum and Olympic athlete is sharing her opening ceremonies experience with fans.
Former Notre Dame student and fencing champion Mariel Zagunis led Team USA into the stadium as the flag bearer.
She was given this honor by her fellow athletes who voted for her.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist is the most successful U.S. fencer in Olympic history.
Zagunis posted a picture her Facebook page and writes in part “This is one of the most surreal moments of my life! I want everyone to know that I am so thankful and proud to have this great honor and opportunity to represent my county."
