ELKHART – Dozens of Elkhart firefighters were called into action early Sunday morning after fire hit the old Walter Piano building on West Beardsley Ave.
Around 6:30 a.m., 911 was called about the blaze at 700 W. Beardsley at the corner of N. Michigan St.
WSBT was told most of Elkhart’s departments were on the scene, and Cleveland Township was called in to provide an aerial truck.
Nobody was hurt.
Investigators say the middle section of the building was fully engulfed when crews arrived on the scene.
It took nearly four hours for firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
No crews were sent inside.
There’s no word on how much damage was done or what caused the big blaze. That's under investigation.
The W. Beardsley Ave./N. Michigan St. area was closed for several hours but has reopened.
