NOTRE DAME – Pancakes and coffee sound like the perfect way to start the day, but over 1,500 people from around Michiana had another idea on Saturday.

They decided a 6-mile race through Notre Dame’s campus was the best way to wake up.

Logan’s Run is helping families and people with disabilities, and there are still ways you can help.

Every person at the starting line did their part to help Logan Center and help others.

Shelly Schultz and her family say Logan Center was there for them.

“They’ve been a great support since Eric was born, and it’s a great thing for the community,” said Schultz. “They are just there for all stages, for anything. When he was younger, they provided the support we needed then, through school time, getting the resources that were available. Now that he’s an adult, they provide that next step as well for my husband and I. They are an extended family in a whole different way that you will never think or think that you’ll ever have in your life.”

People from all over the area came to Notre Dame for the family fun walk, 5K and 10K.

Logan’s Run is an annual event, and one of the Logan Center’s biggest fundraisers.

“People with developmental disabilities are part of our community – our neighbors, our friends and co-workers,” said Clint Bolser of the Logan Center. “It’s imperative that we have the community to support us. Fundraisers like this are important to carry on the mission.”

And Bolser says you don’t have to wait until next year to make a difference.

“Be advocates for people with disabilities, giving people an opportunity to integrate into the community. Be part of the community and work in the community. Another way you can help the Logan team here – donate. And we’re not just talking about financially. Your time. They say volunteers here are so important,” Bolser added.
