August 09, 2012|WSBT-TV Report

Police tell us an 18-month-old and a 55-year-old are dead after they were found in a pool at a home in Granger. The 55-year-old is the child's grandfather.

This happened just after 7 p.m. Thursday in the 52000 block of Glen Arbor Court. Police say the baby was staying with the grandparents.

"Officers at the scene were told that the 55-year-old had taken the 18-month-old for a walk while his wife prepared dinner," according to a news release from St. Joseph County police. "When the wife saw that the two had not returned from their walk after some time, the wife sent the couple's adult son to look for them. The son returned from checking the neighborhood and found the male party and the child on the bottom of the pool. The son and his friend then jumped in and pulled both victims from the pool."

The grandfather was pronounced dead at the scene. The baby was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital.
