SOUTH BEND - Darren McNair awoke this morning to a telephone call from a cousin telling him his Park Jefferson apartment building was on fire. McNair, 22, and a friend, Lindsey Johnson, 18, quickly fled the building with just the clothes on their backs. They saw high flames shooting from the building as they ran. “I have my phone and nothing else,” McNair said about 7:45 a.m. in the apartment complex clubhouse. Shortly after firefighters arrived, the blaze spread to at least three more sections of the complex -- that equates to more than 30 apartments.
