SOUTH BEND — Sentencing has been postponed for a 22-year-old man who has pleaded guilty in connection with his role in a deadly Mishawaka shooting. Guy Torres this morning appeared in court, where his sentencing was delayed until June 16 so that he may complete terms of his plea agreement. Torres has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, a Class B felony, in the death of 29-year-old James Dydo. Dydo died in September 2009 after allegedly being shot by Ponie Clark, an acquaintance of Torres.

GRANGER — A St. Joseph County police officer chased a 20-year-old man through a Granger subdivision Sunday after pulling him over for speeding, according to court documents. Joshua Shearer now faces charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, a Class D felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and minor consuming, a Class C misdemeanor. He was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on Sunday and was released today after posting a $1,250 bond.

Elkhart County police say two women were attacked in a Bristol mobile home park by a man wielding a knife and a broken beer bottle. The incident, which police called a domestic dispute, happened around 5:50 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of West Hawthorne. That is in the Timberbrook mobile home park. The 29 and 19-year-old female victims received minor injuries. They were treated at the scene. Joshua Ramirez, 24, was arrested for battery and public intoxication.

Former Warsaw police officer Timothy Whitright, who quit his job in November after allegations surfaced that he had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl, pleaded guilty to felony sexual battery Monday morning in an apparent plea bargain . Whitright is accused of meeting the 16 year old the first week of November while working security at Warsaw High School. Police say he got her phone number from another 16-year-old student and started sending her text messages.

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) — A star of the MTV reality show "Teen Mom" has been given probation after pleading guilty to two felony domestic battery charges. Anderson police investigated the then-20-year-old Amber Portwood after a September episode showed her slapping, choking and kicking the then-24-year-old father of her daughter with the child present. Madison Superior Court Judge David Happe tells The Herald Bulletin that as part of the plea deal he approved Thursday prosecutors dropped a felony child neglect charge against Portwood.

SOUTH BEND - Police are investigating a hit-and-run Sunday morning on the northwest side of South Bend. Around 9:15 a.m., police and paramedics were called to Brick and Laurel Roads near Clay Township Park and south of St. Patrick's County Park. A car hit a pedestrian, who was lying in the middle of the road when crews arrived. EMS on the scene said the victim suffered some head injuries but was conscious and alert, complaining of back pains. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital.

Former Warsaw officer Timothy Whitright, 29, has received an 18-month prison sentence for sexually touching a 13-year-old girl in November of 2010. Court documents show Whitright was driving the girl home at the time and touched her under her clothes. He also asked her to perform sex acts on him - which she did not do. He told her not to tell anyone, and that no one would believe her because “he's a cop and [she] was a kid.” The court sentenced him to one and a half years in prison, with 6 months suspended and that has to be served on probation.

A 28-year-old Elkhart man ran from a seven vehicle smash-up he caused in the 23000 block of Old U.S. Highway 20 late Saturday night. Along with smashed vehicles, a 72-year-old man was injured. Police eventually found and arrested Peter Mikhakhuk on several charges, including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an injury accident and spitting on an officer. Mikhakhuk was driving east on Old U.S. 20 when he veered off the north edge of the road, kept driving through a yard and began striking parked vehicles.

SOUTH BEND - A former bank president accused of molesting a 6-year-old girl in May 2008 has been sentenced to two years in prison for violating the terms of a plea agreement. 45-year-old William Peterson of Granger pleaded guilty to sexual battery and battery and is now required to register as a sex offender. On April 12, Peterson reportedly tested positive for alcohol, violating his plea agreement, refused urine drug screenings, failed to report to probation and did not attend alcohol and mental health counseling, according to deputy prosecutor Cara Brook at an April 20 hearing.
