Take one look at Jaylon Smith and its easy to see why he's regarded as one of the top high school football players in the country. Fast and strong, the five star linebacker from Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers high school is the latest player to commit to Notre Dame. As coach Brian Kelly likes to say, Smith is looking at it as a 40 year decision, not a 4 year decision. "You really can't go wrong at Notre Dame," Smith says. "It's a win-win situation as far as, if football doesn't work out, the degree speaks for itself.

NOTRE DAME -  Notre Dame renews an old rivalry with Miami this Saturday when the two teams meet at Soldier Field in Chicago. Brian Kelly's team is in a good place right now:  Undefeated, and ranked in the Top Ten. Just like Notre Dame was for many of the classic games in this rivalry which were played in the late 1980s. The greatest of all those games came in 1988 at Notre Dame Stadium.  Notre Dame was 4th at the time.  Miami was number one.  And Lou Holtz's team shocked Jimmy Johnson's Hurricanes, on their way to winning the national championship.

Navy starting QB Kriss Proctor will not play against Notre Dame this Saturday.  Proctor injured his elbow during the 2nd quarter of Navy's loss to East Carolina last Saturday. Navy radio play-by-play announcer Bob Socci broke the news tonight on WSBT Radio AM960's Weekday Sportsbeat . Shortly after, Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo confirmed the news. "Kriss has literally left his body on the field for this team," Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said on the university's website.

Brian Kelly was in an exceptionally good mood as he opened up a new season Friday at Notre Dame. It could be because he's excited for a new season, and confident in his team.  Whatever the reason, Kelly definitely kept the mood light during his press conference, take several good natured shots at the members of the media in attendance, and one of his peers as well. “You're lucky I'm so cool that I know what that means”, Kelly joked when referencing the television show The Biggest Loser .  “I think if you threw that at (Alabama coach)

Notre Dame's football game Saturday against Tulsa will be played as scheduled, three days after the death of videographer Declan Sullivan. Sullivan died Wednesday after a tower in which he was filming Wednesday's practice collapsed.   The team will also practice today, but Irish football coach Brian Kelly will not speak to the media following practice. In addition, Kelly's weekly radio show, which usually airs on Thursday night, will not be held, nor will the Friday luncheon or the Friday night pep rally.

SOUTH BEND - The “five-minute plan” has become to Brian Kelly what “decided schematic advantage” was to former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis. An in-your-face mantra that kept getting thrown back in their faces. And the first-year Notre Dame head football coach, Kelly, can live with that, more or less. “You know, when I go play golf, I go to the black (pro) tees,” Kelly said Tuesday in his last media appearance this week before Saturday night’s rival revival at USC. “That’s the first thing that I do. I go line it up at the black tees.

He's a polite kid.   “Yes sir. " "No sir.” Gunnery Sergeant Hartman would be proud.  But Brian Kelly knows a different soldier. “If you met him off the field, he hasn't stopped talking", says Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.   Robert Blanton dowplays the notion that he's a talker.  "No sir I don't talk that much. " That's the biggest change in Robert Blanton since he arrived on campus four years ago.  The guy who had a reputation for jawing both on & off the field…has left his on field talking, to his pads.   “I think I'm a leader" Blanton said.  "I try to  go out there and make plays.  Try to lead by example.  That's what every leader does.

NOTRE DAME - No one could be happier about Notre Dame’s big win over Utah than the fans. Its something they’ve been waiting for, not only this season, but for nearly half a decade. A huge win over a top 20 team showed Brian Kelly can make the grade. During a season that has been less than perfect, Saturday's win gave Irish fans a reason to get excited again. And that excitement could be felt outside the walls of Notre Dame Stadium. "It was a great win for Kelly, for Notre Dame and for these guys,” said Irish fan Teri Douglas.
