ELKHART COUNTY -- Elkhart County also has a plan to tackle this storm. County agencies are joining forces to make sure all bases are covered. Nearly two feet of blowing snow will cause a lot of problems on the roads. That’s why the county highway department spent Tuesday morning preparing what will be a long few days. “We’re expecting a pretty heavy snow event, we’ll be around the clock trying to keep the roads clear,” said Rick Easton, a plow driver.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY -- Part of a major St. Joseph County road is closed this week. State Road 331 in Mishawaka closed from Lincolnway to 12th Street as crews install a drainage pipe. This is part of the 331 project to widen and realign the road. Homeowners and businesses will have access to 331 via Lincolnway. But they won't be able to get out onto 12th Street. All other traffic will have to detour because there will be a giant hole near 12th Street as crews install the large concrete drainage pipes.

Crews worked for about an hour in the brutal weather Sunday night to put out a stubborn fire at a South Bend business. Firefighters were called to 2925 McKinley Ave.  just after 8 p.m. for a fire at Smitty's Muffler and Brake. Crews had a difficult time running their water lines through the building because of all the equipment inside. They were eventually told to evacuate because firefighters were afraid the building might collapse. No one was in the building when the fire began.

SOUTH BEND — The day after a state of emergency and record-breaking snowfall in South Bend, the city has put its focus on cleaning up. Crews have been working around the clock to move the snow out of the streets.   "I am declaring a winter weather emergency condition in the city of South Bend," Mayor Steven Luecke said at a Saturday news conference as the snow closed the city down. One day later, the city closed main streets through downtown to clean up the mess left behind.
