WARREN, Mich. (AP) - Police in suburban Detroit suspect that a pickup truck driving was drag racing before a crash into a building that killed his two passengers. Lt. Dan Beck tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens and the Detroit Free Press that Warren police expect a warrant charging the man following Sunday's crash that killed 26-year-old Kyle Dixon of Clinton Township and 21-year-old John Bommarito of St. Clair Shores. Beck says police suspect the driver was drag racing with a second vehicle, whose driver stopped after the crash into the oil change shop.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Dearborn Heights police say two armed men cut the power to a home, forced their way inside and fatally shot a man in front of his wife and children. The Detroit Free Press reports ( http://j.mp/pdIdWT ) that the attack happened about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. Police Capt. Jeff Seipenko says someone in the house dialed 911 during the robbery and left the line open, leading police to send officers to the scene. He says the robbers fled before police arrived.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. (AP) - Oakland County prosecutors helped release a doctor from prison after a woman who had accused him of sexual assault was secretly recorded saying she had lied. The Detroit Free Press (http://bit.ly/qybkE4) says Dr. Labeed Nouri spent more than three years in jail and prison for assaulting a woman who worked in his Hazel Park office. But the case took a dramatic turn when the woman's boyfriend said they had lied about her sexual past.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the weekend slaying of a suburban Detroit man and a suicide by his wife in their home. Farmington Hills police tell the Detroit Free Press that 52-year-old Lisa Mazzola shot 53-year-old Robert Mazzola to death before fatally shooting herself. A friend of Lisa Mazzola called police after no one answered the door Friday night. The family's vehicles were parked outside their condo about 16 miles northwest of Detroit.

WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan lawmaker says he wants classic car drivers to be allowed to use state historical vehicle license plates when they take them out on the road in August, rather than risk being ticketed. Now, the plates are valid only when driving to and from a historic or automotive event. State Sen. Mike Kowall says he wants to expand the right of drivers to use the plate throughout August. The Republican represents Oakland County's White Lake Township, about 30 miles northwest of Detroit.

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man with bladder cancer who suffered a rough pat-down by a Detroit airport security agent last fall says it's happened again. A screener's aggressive pat-down in November caused the lid of Thomas Sawyer's urostomy bag to loosen, spilling urine on his shirt and pants. Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole called Sawyer to apologize. Now, Sawyer says on July 14, a screener at Detroit Metropolitan Airport disregarded his warning that he had a urostomy bag beneath his untucked shirt.

DETROIT (AP) - A jury has awarded $705,000 to a nursing home manager who was fired in 2009 after cooperating with a state investigation of patient mistreatment. The Detroit Free Press reports the Wayne County Circuit Court jury on Thursday awarded the damages to 52-year-old Elizabeth Williamson of Roseville. Williamson's lawyer Robert Fetter describes her as a hero who cooperated with state investigators about violations at Omni Continuing Care in Detroit.

DETROIT (AP) — Police say a 3-year-old girl has been fatally shot by a stray bullet in Detroit following an apparent dispute between neighbors. Police say the girl was shot about 9:40 p.m. Sunday while inside a home. Police say the gunfire came from outside, where a dispute took place. Sgt. Eren Stephens tells the Detroit Free Press a bullet went through a wall of the home before striking the girl. She tells The Detroit News that police were investigating whether shots were aimed at the home.

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The stepfather of a 7-year-old Michigan boy who drove a car for 20 miles, sometimes hitting speeds of 50 mph, says the child's family doesn't understand why he tried to drive to his father's home. The stepfather told the Detroit Free Press for a story Thursday that the boy had just seen his father a day earlier on Father's Day. The boy told authorities he took his stepfather's car from his home in Huron County's Sheridan Township on Monday because he wanted to visit his father who lives about 13 miles away.

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a Detroit-area man claims that he was beaten and robbed by a group of men prior to an arranged sexual encounter with a woman he had been communicating with on Facebook. No arrests were reported Wednesday from Sunday's attack in Oakland County's Highland Township, about 30 miles northwest of Detroit. The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report that the 34-year-old Novi man suffered a broken jaw. The man told police he and the woman met at a gas station and that he followed her to a park where he was ambushed.
