Greencore, USA - Cincinnati said Friday that it is recalling about 550 pounds of sandwiches containing eggs manufactured by Michael Foods Inc. Michael Foods has recalled cooked eggs distributed in 34 states because of possible listeria contamination that can sicken people with weak immune systems.

SOUTH BEND - No larger than a clementine and covered in soft, white down feathers, a peregrine falcon chick emerged from one of four eggs atop County-City Building over the weekend, marking the beginning of a short but intense period of care for parents Guinevere and Zeus. The helpless hatchling arrived about 5 p.m. Saturday, after about 37 days of incubation, according to Carol Riewe, a local raptor rehabilitator who keeps tabs on the city's two resident peregrine falcons.

SOUTH BEND - If all goes well, the city will have three new residents in about a month. Guinevere, South Bend's resident peregrine falcon, has now laid three eggs and started the incubation period, which generally will last from 30 to 32 days, according to Carole Riewe, local raptor rehabilitator. Guinevere's first egg was spotted last Thursday, and another was seen over the weekend in the nesting box atop County-City Building downtown. Riewe said Tuesday that Guinevere could lay yet another egg. Guinevere and her then-mate Zephyr started nesting together in 2003 and raised a brood every year.

BONAPARTE, Iowa (AP) — A hen in southeast Iowa has provided its owner with a prize he calls "egg-normous. " It's a 4.1-ounce beauty that's about twice the size of large eggs sold by the dozen in supermarkets. After it was laid Feb. 18 by an Australorp hen, 37-year-old Nathan Batten carried the egg around in his coat pocket for a couple of days to show his friends. He's since put it in his refrigerator. The egg measures 3.5 inches long, 6.5 inches around.

The first egg was seen a few days ago. A local raptor expert says Guinevere can lay up to four, with the eggs coming every other day or so. The serious incubation period won't begin until the third has been laid.
