Protecting you - That's Goshen's goal as they try to find any underground vaults downtown. Goshen hired a company called Blood Hound Underground. It uses ground-penetrating radar to search under sidewalks for the vaults. The city hopes to determine if there are more of them after a business owner fell through a sidewalk after it collapsed last year. The city has already found 49 underground vaults. They were once used to lower goods into businesses, but have since been covered.

The short term solutions include eliminating field trips, expanding walk zones and changing the start and end times for all schools. But they are also considering getting rid of all bus routes in 3 years. The school board will discuss that option at its next meeting on May 28.

GOSHEN - Firefighters in Goshen practiced their water rescue techniques and boat handling. And as we get closer to summer, more people will be hitting the local water ways. All members of the fire department are required to update their skills out on the water with this training. Like fighting a fire, they have to be prepared for anything on the water ways. “Both situations, fire ground and water rescue, are very dynamic,” said Goshen Fire Captain Steffen Schrock.

GOSHEN - Goshen is kicking off a community wide program to help beautify the Maple City. As part of the program, people are allowed to drop off everything from old appliances, computers, tires, furniture, microwaves, old TVs and refrigerators at the Street Department. In past years, especially during spring cleaning season, those items would somehow wind up in alleys, ditches, or empty lots. “We're constantly getting stuff, picked up whether it's out of the ditch lines,” said Denny Long of the Goshen Street Department.

GOSHEN - People who live in Goshen know you can hear train horns around the clock, but a new study is looking at whether it's possible to silence those horns along a stretch of tracks near 9 th Street. Jeannie Petry is all too familiar with putting up with train horns. She lives on the east side of Goshen by the tracks along 9 th St. where daily Norfolk Southern horns are a fact of life. “Every hour, you know there's a train coming, so you're going to hear them whistles every stop along the way here, and it's until that train gets past that you do hear it,” said Petry.

GOSHEN - Police say suicide was the cause of a deadly train-pedestrian collision in Goshen that killed a New Paris man Sunday night. Goshen police say shortly before 8 p.m., officers learned about a pedestrian who was struck by a freight train on the Norfolk Southern tracks in the area of 1st Street and River Avenue.
