GOSHEN, Ind. - Police have released new information about a crime that has crippled a local community with fear. The headline from Friday's update - there are no suspects in Sunday's home invasion and murder in Goshen, but they are interviewing several people in connection with the case. Police Chief Wade Branson told reporters during a Friday news conference that his officers have put hundreds of man hours and every possible resource into the investigation. When asked if people living in the community should be concerned that a killer is on the loose, Chief Branson responded, “Until he's arrested, I would say yes.” It's not what people living in the close-knit community wanted to hear.

Goshen College professor James S. Miller's church and the high school two of his children attend are working to help all those impacted by the slaying of the popular biology instructor. Police said Miller, 58, was killed and his wife, Linda, was injured Sunday morning in an invasion of his home in the 1700 block of Wildwood Court. On Monday, Elkhart County Coroner John White said an autopsy revealed the causes of Miller's death were "multiple blunt force and multiple sharp force injuries.

GOSHEN - WSBT has learned the results of two autopsies performed Monday on  58-year-old James Miller, a Goshen College professor murdered during a home invasion Sunday morning. According to coroner John White, the cause of death was multiple blunt force and sharp force injuries. They do not know if the blunt force trauma was caused by a weapon or by kicks and punches. MISHWAKA - A former Goshen College student, who told her mom she'd been kidnapped and raped as an excuse for being late, received her sentence today. Jessica De La Vega will have to spend a year and a half on probation and perform 200 hours of community service for her conviction of obstructing justice. A year-and-a-half of prison time was suspended. De La Vega told police back in January she had been abducted and raped in a Goshen park, leading police to circulate a sketch of a suspect.

Goshen College has decided to stop playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at sporting events after starting to do so for the first time last year. Last spring the Mennonite college made a decision to allow the instrumental version of the song played before select sporting events. The decision to play the anthem at select events allowed the community, alumni and students to provide the college with feedback on the issue -- they called it the "listen and learn process.

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — Goshen College, which began playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" for the first time at sporting events last year, plans to review next month whether to continue the practice. The college's board of directors is set to meet in early June to evaluate the practice an playing an instrumental version of the national anthem, followed by a peace prayer, before games and other events. The Elkhart Truth reports that an announcement is expected soon after a decision is made.

GOSHEN — Jessica De La Vega said she was abducted from Goshen College at knife-point and then raped at a nearby park. Investigators say it was all a lie — that she made the story up as an excuse to her parents for being gone from home too long. For months, students at Goshen College took extra steps to stay safe. They used security escorts and watched out for one another. "We were always walking in pairs, especially that night," said Erica Yost, a senior at the university.

GOSHEN -- An area college is in the national spotlight for having the best college radio station in the country. It competed against every student operated station at colleges and universities around the nation to win the top prize. Goshen College’s WGCS 91.1 FM is the best station in the country, according to the Intercollegiate Brodcasting System. “The Globe,” as it’s called, even beat out stations at larger universities. “It’s a great honor, the other finalist for this award was DePaul in Chicago, which is a Big East school, the same conference as Notre Dame”, said Tony Miller, a student radio staffer.

The Elkhart County prosecutor announced Monday that the accuser in an alleged January 18 rape had lied. Jessica DeLa Vega, 19, of Elkhart reported to Goshen Police that she was walking to her car on Goshen College campus around 1:00 a.m. when a man walked up to her and forced her into the vehicle. She said she was told to drive to another location where the suspect sexually assaulted her. At a Monday press conference, Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis T. Hill Jr. said investigators discovered DeLa Vega was actually at party in a neighboring county during the time the rape supposedly happened.
