At this time there is no set time of when the application will close or the start of the next recruit class but those who are interested are encouraged to apply now. A former northern Indiana prison guard is accused of trying to poison his wife four different times. Indiana state police arrested 41-year-old Jon Krum of Van Buren for aggravated battery. Krum was a correctional officer at the Miami Correctional Facility. He's accused of putting weed killer, rubbing alcohol, antifreeze and prescription medication into drinks for his wife. State police say his wife threw out the drinks and didn't get sick.

When a child goes missing, an Amber Alert is issued. The goal is to get the information to as many people as quickly as possible. Now, there's an alert that would be sent directly to your phone, but Indiana State Police don't think it's a good idea. Time is critical when a child is missing. After Indiana State Police pulled over a car transport trailer about a week ago, they made an interesting discovery – kilos of cocaine hidden in one of the luxury cars on the transport. Now, police say they have found more. Trooper Mick Dockery and his K-9 partner Hondo found 29 kilos of cocaine hidden in a 2007 Mercedes Benz S550 – the car valued at $100,000 and the cocaine valued at about $1,000,000– after stopping the transport near the Elkhart exit of the Indiana Toll Road.

Indiana State Police are responding to a serious crash on I-65 just south of I-80 near Gary, an Indiana State Police dispatcher said. The right lane on south-bound I-65 is still blocked following the accident which happened at 11:43 p.m. Thursday, the dispatcher said. The accident, which involved two cars, is still being investigated. Drivers of the cars sustained serious injuries, the dispatcher said. No further information was immediately available.

The Elkhart County sheriff is working to find out what happened after one of his officers was arrested. Indiana State Police arrested Patrolman William Long Jr. Tuesday night after he allegedly broke down the door to a house where he used to live and grabbed some of his things. He was off duty at the time. Officer Long was arrested for Invasion of Privacy -- a misdemeanor -- because he violated a protective order.  Sheriff Brad Rogers says he will review the case at the end of the investigation to determine what action to take with Long.

A former LaPorte County police officer is under close observation at IU Health LaPorte Hospital after threatening to kill himself when police tried to arrest him on child molestation charges. David Oldham, 42, is already facing federal child porn and evidence tampering charges, and on the state level he is charged with child exploitation. He has a hearing in May on those charges. Tuesday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., Michigan City Police along with deputies from the United States Marshall's Service went to Oldham's home on West Andrea Drive in rural LaPorte Country to arrest him on a new charge of child molestation.

Indiana State Police have identified the man who died in a crash involving two semis as Oleh Pyvovarov, 57, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The semis collided and a major fire ensued just before 5:30 a.m. crash at the 77 mile marker. At 8:40 p.m., Indiana state police said that both lanes were open again. Both lanes were closed after the accident and one lane was reopened at 1:30 p.m., police said. Initial information from Indiana State Police describes the accident happening when a 2008 Freightliner semi slowed either in or near the eastbound driving lane.

The probable cause affidavit is providing more details into the case of a former Indiana State Police trooper charged with embezzling more than $90,000 in funds that authorities say should’ve gone to the state. The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges in November against Dallard Tackett, 59, Nappanee, a 31-year veteran of the Indiana State Police and former commander of the Indiana Toll Road post. This week, the state board of accounts asked that Tackett repay the money.

The number of students injured in the North Webster school bus crash Wednesday has gone up.  Wawasee Community Schools says more than 80 kids were affected by the crash in some way.  The four bus drivers have been identified.... Deputies have determined that Cynthia K. Routh, 64, North Webster, was the lead bus driver that had stopped to allow a student to exit her school bus.  David W. Granger, 63, Warsaw, was following behind Routh's bus. Julie K. Close, 47, Syracuse, drove the third bus, directly behind Granger.

Day one of the petition fraud trial against the former head of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party and another election worker started Tuesday morning. Seven witnesses out of a total witness list of 31 took the stand after the defense and prosecution made their opening statements. Butch Morgan and Dustin Blythe are accused of being involved in forging signatures to get Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on Indiana's 2008 primary ballot. Morgan faces 4 felony charges while Blythe faces 10. The first witness, Lucas Burkett , testified for close to two hours . He used to work at the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office.

SYRACUSE, Ind. - A northern Kosciusko County man was robbed and attacked in his home early Sunday morning, and police are looking for the culprits. Just after 12:30 a.m., police in Syracuse were called to the 600 block of N. Harrison St. After arriving, they learned Jeremy Smith had been the victim of a home invasion. Smith told officers he heard someone pounding on his back door, and when he went to answer it, two men kicked in the door and attacked him. Police say once inside, the suspects, both dressed in black and wearing ski type masks, hit Smith several times.

BREMEN - Indiana State Police now say a semi driver who drove his rig off U.S. 6 near Bremen Monday died from a catastrophic medical event. A preliminary investigation has determined that catastrophic medical event caused Edward Heward, 51, of Romney, West Virginia to lose control of his truck. Shortly before 11 a.m., police and medics were called to U.S. 6 just west of the Miami Road intersection. Troopers arrived on the scene and found Heward seat belted in the driver seat slumped over and unresponsive.

BREMEN - A West Virginia man has died after his semi crashed near Bremen on Monday. Around 10:30 a.m., police were called to U.S. 6 near Miami Rd. after 51-year-old Edward Heward of Romney, West Virginia drove his semi down an embankment along U.S. 6. Indiana State Police closed U.S. 6 between Miami Trail and State Road 106 for several hours. Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger and State Police are investigating the cause of Heward's death. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

SOUTH BEND -- Part of the investigation into a deadly crash involving an Indiana state trooper has been turned over to the St. Joseph County prosecutor. William "Ben" Ennis was on his way to help a St. Joseph County police officer when the crash happened last month. It happened at the corner of Ireland and Linden Roads in South Bend. 19-year old Robert Perez was driving the other car and later died from his injuries. Lora Bentley of the St. Joseph County prosecutor's office says her office has received some written reports from Indiana State Police and is waiting for additional information.

A Fulton man is facing criminal confinement and criminal recklessness charges tonight after a standoff with police, but that man is still in critical condition this evening after he suffered a gunshot wound during a standoff with police. This all happened at a home in the 300 block of West Brown Street south of Rochester. Indiana State Police say 46-year-old Nicholas Westerhoff got into an argument with his girlfriend. Police say he told her to leave and she did and then he went outside and started firing shots.

She pleaded guilty to forgery and ballot petition fraud but if Bev Shelton cooperates with prosecutors, she might not get any jail time. Shelton is one of three people accused of forging signatures to get Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on Indiana's 2008 primary ballot. St. Joseph County's former democratic party chair, Butch Morgan, is accused of telling them to do it. As part of her plea agreement with prosecutors, Shelton agreed to testify against her former co-workers.

ROCHESTER - A man was shot overnight during what police say was a gunfight with officers at the end of a nearly-four hour standoff at a home near Rochester. Indiana State Police say 46-year-old Nicholas S. Westerhoff was wounded late Wednesday night in an exchange of gunfire with officers who had surrounded his home in the 300 block of West Brown Street south of Rochester. Police say Westerhoff refused to leave his home when officers arrived about 8:15 to investigate a domestic disturbance.
