He went from wearing a crown to wearing handcuffs. The current reigning Mr. Blossomtime is in jail, accused of drunk driving among other charges. Agape Mpamira, 19, of Buchanan awaits an April trial date. Mpamira was crowned Mr. Blossomtime last March and participated in last year's Grand Floral Parade. The Buchanan High School graduate planned on going to school to become a doctor Instead Mpamira finds himself in jail. On November 22, 2012, Niles Police pulled Mpamira over at the corner of Main Street and Front Street near downtown.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A pregnant baby sitter charged in Ohio with killing a 23-month-old toddler has requested maternity leave from jail. Twenty-year-old Tiffani Calise, who is eight months pregnant, has been held at the county jail in Akron since August. She has pleaded not guilty. Her lawyers requested the maternity release last week. The judge's decision is pending. The woman has been charged in a toddler's death blamed on blows to the head.

NILES -- A Niles police officer facing felony sex crime charges is now of jail. Ivery Cross bonded out Friday morning, but he is wearing an ankle bracelet. This comes a day after his family made an emotional and public case that he's innocent.  Cross appeared in Berrien County court to answer charges he sexually assaulted an inmate while on-duty. Cross is formally charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual misconduct in the first and second degree. He's also charged with misconduct in office.

A former local leader is in jail after admitting to misconduct while in office. Jeff Dean reported to the county jail just after 8 Monday morning. The former Penn Township trustee pleaded guilty in May to paying his girlfriend for work she didn't do during his time as trustee. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 15 months probation. Dean resigned from office last month. Last month a caucus elected former state government consultant Janet Whitfield-Hyduk to replace him.

NILES - If you're ever at the Berrien County Courthouse in Niles, you may want to watch your language. One woman's cursing landed her in jail for contempt of court -- even though she wasn't in a courtroom. LaRue Ford, 49, of northwest Indiana has a master's degree and no criminal record. She was in the county clerk's office inside the courthouse trying to get some traffic fees cleared up. It was a frustrating process...during which she muttered a few profanities. Now she's sitting in jail.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal judge says the U.S. Justice Department can join a lawsuit challenging a South Carolina jail's policy barring inmates from any reading material other than the Bible. Court documents filed Monday show U.S. District Judge Margaret Seymour agreed to allow the government to take part in the lawsuit against the Berkeley County jail. The American Civil Liberties Union in October sued the Berkeley County jail on behalf of the monthly prison law journal Prison Legal News.

The former Keystone RV executive, who was arrested and charged with rape and sodomy, bonded out of jail. Brian Doss of Goshen was arrested at a hotel in a Louisville Kentucky suburb. The Keystone's vice president and general counsel says the alleged victim was also a Keystone employee. Both were in Louisville for the RV Show. Doss was fired from Keystone after his arrest. He bonded out of jail Monday night.

SOUTH BEND - A judge on Tuesday refused to lower the $15,000 jail bond of a local grandmother accused of neglecting her grandchildren while they allegedly suffered abuse. St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller noted that 53-year-old Dellia Castile has only been a resident in St. Joseph County since 2009, and that she has a previous felony conviction out of Cook County, Ill. The judge also said she found it “troubling” that Castile told probation officers her source of money to pay the bond would be public assistance dollars meant for dependent children.

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - A Detroit-area man charged with driving drunk on a riding lawn mower after an arrest recorded on police video faces at least 45 days in jail after pleading guilty. The Detroit News reports ( http://bit.ly/YNfnwh ) 47-year-old Roy Walton entered the plea Wednesday in Oakland County Circuit Court to operating while intoxicated, his third such offense. Judge Wendy Potts told Walton jail time was expected because of his prior record. Defense lawyer John Secrest sought a 30-day suspended sentence.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Motley Crue singer Vince Neil is taking a plea deal that will get him two weeks of jail time plus two weeks of house arrest for driving drunk in his Lamborghini near the Las Vegas Strip. Tess Driver, an aide to Clark County District Attorney David Roger, said Tuesday that the 49-year-old rocker has agreed to plead guilty Jan. 26 to misdemeanor driving under the influence stemming from his arrest last June. He's due to begin serving his sentence Feb. 15. Neil's attorney, David Chesnoff, referred calls to Neil's publicist, Jill Siegel in New York.

SOUTH BEND - The South Bend paramedic accused of stealing drugs from the city's fire department is out of jail. Police arrested Timothy Greenlee over the weekend after an audit found the drug Fentanyl missing from an ambulance. Fentanyl is a form of morphine that relieves pain. South Bend Fire Chief Steve Cox says department investigators were able to identify a suspect quickly because of systems they have in place to regulate narcotics used for patients. Cox says Greenlee was placed on administrative leave Sunday.

SOUTH BEND - Police have recaptured a St. Joseph County Jail inmate who fled to Bremen after escaping the jail Tuesday morning by commandeering a delivery truck and ramming it through a gate. Officers took Franklin Rice, 27, and his girlfriend into custody about 3 p.m. at a residence in Bremen, said Sgt. Bill Redman, a St. Joseph County police spokesman. Police also arrested another female accomplice who they say helped him escape. The girlfriend, Phetsamone Kaviyakone, 27, of Bremen, and Priscilla Minjarez, 21, of South Bend, are in custody on preliminary charges of escape.

SOUTH BEND - A St. Joseph County Jail escapee is back in custody. Police say around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Franklin Rice, 27, of South Bend got access to a bread delivery truck which had the keys in the ignition. Rice then drove the truck from the rear dock area on the north side of the jail on W. Sample St. in South Bend, smashing through a gate before fleeing onto Lafayette Blvd. Police say Rice stopped and left the bread truck between Sample and Bronson Streets and ran. It appears he got into another vehicle and continued fleeing.

A former St. Joseph County jail officer accused of stealing from a former inmate is expected in court today. Investigators say Trevor Reynolds used the inmate's debit card to take money out of an ATM and fill up his car with gas. Sheriff Mike Grzegorek has said he has surveillance video, photographs and receipts to prove Reynolds stole more than $600. Reynolds told the sheriff he bought the debit card from the inmate. When offenders are booked into the jail with cash on them, officers put that money onto a debit card, which they get back when they're released.

MARSHALL COUNTY - After an autopsy Tuesday, Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger says preliminary results show violence or foul play did not play a role in the death of a Marshall County Correctional Facility inmate. Investigators say 44-year-old Kerry Pinder of Culver died suddenly Sunday. He had a history of medical issues, according to Cleavenger. Pinder was booked into the jail Saturday morning. Toxicology results are expected next week.

SOUTH BEND - A former University of Notre Dame employee caught planting a video camera in a campus women's restroom will have to spend time behind bars after violating his probation. In February 2012, Don Steinke, 60, pleaded guilty to three counts of voyeurism and one count of attempted voyeurism, each a class D felony. The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office says video recordings were found on four separate dates between January 9, 2009 and March 7, 2011. Superior Judge Jerome J. Frese decided to treat all four counts of class A misdemeanors instead of felonies.

LAGRANGE - 4 people are behind bars after a meth bust in LaGrange County. County police were called to a home in the 3600 block of S. 600 East in LaGrange on Sunday and found several items used to make methamphetamine and paraphernalia associated with consuming the illegal drug. Officers found a number of chemicals used to make meth in the home and garage. They also uncovered a large amount of what they believe is meth. The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was called to handle the dangerous chemicals at the scene.

GOSHEN - A Goshen man who was the focus of a SWAT team effort Saturday night has been booked into jail. Police had been waiting on his release from the hospital. Shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, police were flagged down in the 300 block of N. Main St. and told about a domestic dispute. That's when officers learned that the 49-year-old woman had been the victim of an altercation. Eyewitnesses told WSBT she was able to escape her home and hide from 48-year-old William Hogendobler.
